Lettuce-Wrapped Bacon Egg and Cheeseburgers
| August 16, 2018
–Makes 8 burgers–
This is one of my favorite recipes because you’ll have all the burners on the stove and the oven going at once but it’s worth it. For the best flavor on the burgers, I like to do this over a gas grill.
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
2 lbs uncured bacon
2 large beefsteak tomatoes
1 head of romaine lettuce
2 large red onions
8 large brown eggs
1 lb deli-sliced cheddar or pepper jack cheese
2 tbsp black pepper
2 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp salt
Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 30 minutes
Instructions:
Wash lettuce, tomatoes, and onions
break off lettuce leaves into 8-16 wraps
slice onions and tomatoes and plate them on a large platter for buffet-style service
make ground beef into 8 1/4 lb patties
season patties with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides
preheat grill or stove top burners to ~300 degrees fahrenheit
preheat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit
cook bacon on two sheets in the oven 15-20 minutes (checking often when approaching 15 minutes)
cook burgers 4-5 minutes on each side (placing cheese on each burger after flipping, about 1 minute before they’re done)
Serve and enjoy! (I like to layer them as follows: burger, cheese, bacon strips, tomato slice, red onion slice, and then wrap the whole thing with two large romaine lettuce leaves)
Note: With any of my recipes, I recommend using organic/farm fresh ingredients when possible. For condiments, sauces, and salad dressings, I recommend making your own. That’s because most of the ones available at the grocery store contain MSG (monosodium glutamate) or other ingredients I don’t want in there.
